Description

Dudbridge House, along with its East and West Pavilions, dates to the mid-18th century and is constructed of ashlar with a hipped slate roof. The main house is three storeys high and features a band course above the ground floor, a modillion eaves cornice, and a blocking course. It has five bays of double-hung sash windows with glazing bars, and continuous sills to the ground floor. Flanking pavilions, one storey in height and with two bays each, are positioned on either side. These pavilions are crowned by pediments.

Inside, the hall has two doorways distinguished by shouldered architraves, pulvinated friezes, and broken pediments. The staircase is notable for its turned balusters, fluted columnar newels, a handrail that ramps to the newels, and wainscotting to dado level with fluted muntins. A back staircase is decorated in a Chinese Chippendale pattern, featuring fretwork struts, a running fret motif, and an open string.

The main rooms are wainscotted throughout, with a dado featuring an egg and dart moulding. Above the dado are oblong panels framed by egg and dart moulding, and the rooms have an elaborate moulded modillion cornice. A marble fireplace is set within a shouldered surround, with a chimney piece featuring egg and dart moulding. The overmantel is shouldered and incorporates a running fret motif in the architrave, topped by a broken pediment. Doorcases have shouldered architraves and cornices with dentils and an egg and dart motif. Mahogany panelled doors are fitted with brass urn handles.
