Description
The Townsend monument is a chest tomb located approximately 3.5 metres south of the Church of St. John. It dates from 1688 and is made of limestone. The tomb features lyre ends with a moulded inscription panel above a death's head, and a cherub's head above that. The sides have moulded inscription panels flanked by mourners. It has a cyma moulded top and base. The north side is inscribed with the name PHILIP TOWNSEND, who died in 1688.
