Description
Chestnut Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the mid to late 18th century, featuring Gothick windows and a door likely added in the early 19th century. The building was enlarged at the rear right in the later 19th century. It is constructed of brick on a stone plinth, with alternating flush quoins, a plat band, a moulded cornice, and a blocking course made of dressed stone, although the rear is mostly faced in roughcast. The roof is tiled, with ashlar end stacks that have offsets and a moulded cornice, and there are three square flues grouped diagonally on the left end. The farmhouse has a single front range with a rear wing to the left, and the longer right-hand rear wing may be a later addition that was further extended to the side in the later 19th century. The building has two storeys and an attic, featuring three windows with 3/2/3-light arched stone mullion lights that have glazing bars and squared hoodmoulds, along with a central door flanked by a 3-light window, all beneath a Tudor arch and also with a square hoodmould. There is one similar window on the left-hand return, while the right-hand return is blind and rendered, with a small lean-to at the ground floor. Inside, most rooms in the main range have chamfered and stopped beams.
