Description

Millswood is a detached house, originally a mill, dating to the late 18th century, with possible earlier elements. The building is constructed of coursed rubble limestone with ashlar chimneys and a roof of stone slate and concrete tiles. It is two storeys with an attic. A lean-to outshut extends to the rear.

The front of the building appears to be in two phases of construction, both of similar date. The left side has scattered timber mullioned windows with leaded iron casements to the upper floor, with ground floor mullioned casements that have been restored. A plain flush ashlar band runs above the windows. The right side has scattered leaded casements. A doorway has a plank and cover-strip door, sheltered by a lean-to porch hood. There are four flush rooflights. Three ridge chimneys are topped with chamfered caps. A lower section to the south end has a smooth ashlar elevation with leaded casements.

The rear features a lean-to outshut and a very tall brick chimney. Towards the south end, a gabled loft doorway has double plank doors. The interior has not been inspected, but may be of interest. A screen wall at the south end contains a pointed arched doorway and links to a coach house.
