Description
The building is a former barn, now used as stables, dating from the 17th century with alterations made in the mid-19th century. It is constructed of ashlar and random rubble limestone, topped with a stone slate roof. The barn features porches on both the north and south sides, with the south side having a central gabled porch that has a parapet and finials. There are barn doors with a timber lintel, a leaded loft casement, and six rows of pigeon holes with perches. The flanking lean-to stores have a catslide roof. The west end has casements, and at the east end, there is a glazed cupola that was formerly used to hold a lamp for guiding returning carriages, possibly repurposed from an earlier dovecote. The gable has a blank trefoil recess. Inside, there are lofts and stable fittings. This building is part of a group with the Old Priory and Stable Cottage.
