Description

A coach house and two adjoining gateways dating from the early 18th century, rebuilt in the early 19th century, stand approximately 20 metres south of Horsley Court. The building is constructed of coursed rubble limestone with timber weatherboarding; it has a stone slate roof. The gate piers are limestone with tufa detailing to the flanking walls.

The coach house has a former cottage at its north end, partially converted. Open-fronted sheds were originally to the south. At the north end are two adjoining gateways. One gable on the west side is original, featuring a loft doorway. The other gable is weatherboarded, with a segmental coach house doorway below, containing plank doors. A stable door and an iron casement window with a timber lintel are located to the left. A later addition on the right includes a stable doorway and a gabled loft opening with shaped barge boards. To the right is a three-bay shed with monolithic piers; the openings are now blocked with brick. A blocked doorway is present on the east (road) side.

The main gateway piers are likely contemporary with the house, featuring moulded caps and large ball finials on tall, bulbous bases. The secondary stable yard gateway has monolithic round-topped piers, roughly 2000mm tall and 300mm square, with concave, splayed flanking walls featuring rusticated dressed quoins in tufa. Later gates are not of significant interest.
