Description
The Biddle monument is a pedestal tomb located in the churchyard approximately 4 meters south of the chancel of the Church of St. John. It dates from 1780 and is made of limestone with a sandstone top and base. The tomb has a square shape with circular ends and features a richly fluted frieze and a dentil course. On the west end, there is a funereal urn, while the east end displays a ribbon bow and a large floral drop. The sides have circular panels, with the south panel featuring a raised rope border and ribbon bows in the spandrels, and the north side adorned with raised moulding and foliage branches draped over. The top and base are also moulded. The north side is inscribed with the name JOHN BIDDLE, who died in 1780.
