Description

The Higgs Monument is a pedestal tomb located in the churchyard approximately 4 meters west of the tower of the Church of St. Leonard. It dates from 1796 and is constructed from limestone and sandstone. The monument is square in shape and features raised oval inscription panels on each side, along with a fluted frieze that is interrupted by a central panel on each face. The top is moulded with ribbed domical coping, and there is a moulded plinth that was formerly enclosed by a railing. The south side of the monument is inscribed with the name of JAMES HIGGS, who died in 1796.
