Description

This listing describes a group of four monuments, primarily belonging to the King family, located in the churchyard approximately 8 meters southeast of the chancel arch. The monuments date from the early 17th century to the early 19th century and include chest tombs made of limestone and a pedestal tomb made of sandstone.

The group consists of three chest tombs: one features plain ends, an ovolo moulded top, and a chamfered base, with an inscription in capitals on the south side that reads: "HERE RESTETH THE BODY OF / VRSVLA THE WIFE OF RICHARD KINGE WHO DECE / ASED THE 30 OF IVLY ANNO / DOMINI 1630." There is an additional early inscription on the west end and a brass plate on the east end dedicated to John King, who died of smallpox in 1794. Another chest tomb has lyre ends and is inscribed to Charles King, though the date is illegible. The third chest tomb features gadrooned corner balusters and is inscribed to Robert Ball, who died in the 17th century. The pedestal tomb has oval side panels and is inscribed to William King, who died in 1763.
