Description
Lye Farmhouse is an 18th-century farmhouse with a later 18th-century Gothick facade added. It is constructed of thin-bedded stone that has been painted, and it features a stone slate roof. The building has a plain rectangular shape, with a Gothick wing added to the east end, creating a T-plan layout.
The Gothick front is tripartite and two storeys high, featuring crenellations. At the first floor, there are three quatrefoil openings beneath a string course, while the ground floor has two pointed Y-tracery blocked lights and a central blocked doorway with Y-tracery above, all under a decorative tri-lobed head. The centre is flanked by buttresses and has diagonal stepped buttresses with crocketted pinnacles at the corners. On the right side of the return face, there is a part-glazed 2-light opening with Y-tracery.
The original part of the farmhouse has two storeys and an attic, with a three-window arrangement featuring 2 or 3-light casements and three hipped dormers. The former entrance is located off-centre on the left side. The right end bay serves as a granary, which has external steps. This building is an interesting example of Gothick architecture, likely influenced by Stouts Hill.
