Description
Foston's Ash Inn is a coaching inn built around 1800. It features coursed rubble limestone construction with ashlar chimneys and a stone slate roof, although the rear has a concrete tile covering. The building is two stories high with an attic, and includes a rear outshut and a single-storey parallel range. The stables to the north have been incorporated into the inn.
The front of the inn has a three-window arrangement on the main part, with outer three-light windows and a central two-light window on the upper floor. All windows have chamfered thin mullions and iron casements. There is a central flat-roofed single-storey porch with a cornice, a segmental arched opening, and small circular side windows. Above the upper floor casements, there is painted lettering in a 19th-century style that reads 'FOSTON'S ASH INN'. The gable end features chimneys with moulded caps.
To the left, a lower two-storey section connects to the former stables, showcasing timber casement windows with stone lintels that have been adapted from the original stable openings. The north end has a parapet gable. The interior has not been inspected.
