Description

The Abel monument is a pedestal tomb located in the churchyard, approximately 1 metre west of the north aisle of the Church of St. Leonard. It dates from 1827 and is constructed with limestone sides and ends, and a sandstone top and lower base. The tomb is rectangular in shape, featuring reeded pilasters on the sides and fluted side-returns on the ends. It has raised side panels with quadrant corners, a cavetto moulded top, and a cyma moulded base. The north side is inscribed with the name JOHN ABELL, who died in 1827.
