Description
The corn mill, located approximately 80 meters southeast of Owlpen Manor, is now a detached house built in 1726. It features coursed rubble limestone construction, ashlar chimneys, and a stone slate roof. The building is three stories tall with an attic. The west front has a two-window layout, with all windows being three-light timber mullioned types that include leaded iron casements and timber lintels. There is a central doorway with plank doors and a timber lintel, along with a similar doorway on the middle floor above. The upper floor has a central circular leaded window. The gable ends have plain chimneys, and there is a central ridge-mounted octagonal timber cupola with leaded glazing and a weathervane, topped with an ogee lead design on a rectangular base. The rear of the building has similar casement windows.
Inside, although it has been converted into a house, many original pieces of corn milling equipment remain, including driving gear, a gantry, and sack traps. The mill was in operation until 1914 and was then used to pump water to Owlpen House, which is situated high on the escarpment. A mill pond with a dam and sluice gates is located on the east side of the property.
