Description
Honeycombe Farmhouse is a detached farmhouse dating from the early 17th century, with extensive rebuilding and enlargement around 1730. It is constructed of random rubble limestone, coursed and squared on the east front, and features ashlar chimneys. The roof is made of stone slate and concrete tiles. The building has a double-pile plan and is two storeys high, with a cellar and attic.
The east front has a three-window arrangement, all featuring 12-pane sashes with triple-keyed beaded architraves and bull-nosed sills. The central doorway has a similar design, with double 3-panel fielded doors accessed by a flight of round-fronted stone steps. There is a rubble plinth and two 2-light chamfered mullioned cellar casements. The corners of the building have alternating chamfered quoins, and there is a moulded eaves cornice. The roof has three pedimented dormers with leaded timber casements.
At each end, there are parapet gables, with each front range gable featuring a chimney with a moulded cap. The ends of the rear range have single-window 12-pane sash fenestration with keyed architraves. The north end includes a round-ended bread oven projection and a 17th-century keyed round-arched doorway. The rear has a central parapet gable with a sash window on each upper floor, the upper window being round-arched with a keystone and imposts. There is a short row of pigeon holes below the eaves to the left, and two eaves-mounted chimneys with moulded caps.
Inside, there is a dog-leg staircase with a moulded and ramped handrail, featuring two turned balusters per tread. The cellar has a stone vault in both the front and rear ranges. There is also a barn to the north and a stable to the northeast.
