Description
The New Inn House with barn is a late 17th-century house, dated 1694, located in Miserden, Gloucestershire. It is a group value building. The house is constructed of random rubble limestone with a rebuilt artificial stone chimney, and has stone slate and concrete tile roofs. It is two storeys with an attic, with a single-storey section linking to a stable. A barn is attached to the rear. The front of the house has a two-window arrangement, with a two-light window to the left and a three-light window to the right, both with chamfered mullioned casements and hoodmoulds, largely retaining original leading. A central doorway has a dated lintel and hoodmould, leading to a six-panel door. To the left, the single-storey section has a wide plank door and a cross-window. The projecting stable has a stable doorway and a timber lintel on its south side. Stone steps lead to a loft doorway with a timber lintel in the gable end. The north side of the house has a single window on each floor, with a three-light window on the ground floor, a two-light window on the upper floor, and a single-light window in the attic, all with hoodmoulds. The south side has a small stair light in the gable end. A rear wing has a timber ground-floor casement and a two-light window above. The barn appears to have been altered to a stable, possibly in the 18th century when the property was used as a posting inn. Inside, the house includes stepped beam chamfer stops, matching stops to many door frames, and retains original doors.
