Description

The Five Andrews Monuments are located about 4 to 7 meters north of the Smith Monument in the churchyard of the Church of St. Nicholas. This group includes a chest tomb for Mary Andrews, dated 1738, and four headstones belonging to the Andrews family. The three headstones closest to the chest tomb are likely from the early to mid-18th century, while the southernmost headstone, which commemorates Judith Andrews, dates back to 1695 and is made of sandstone. The remaining monuments are crafted from limestone.

The chest tomb features a flat top, a moulded plinth and capping, and gadrooned quarter balusters. Its ends display recessed high reliefs, with kneeling cherubs on the west side and a cartouche on the east. The south side has a moulded rectangular panel with flanking reliefs, while the north side showcases a large oval cartouche surrounded by relief work. The three adjacent headstones are adorned with cherubs' heads and wings, as well as festoons. Judith Andrews' headstone features strapwork-style ornamentation on the sides, flat reliefs of monkeys' heads at the top, and a larger central relief depicting a human head and hands.
