Description

This milestone, located approximately 10 meters southeast of the Lock-up in Bisley Village, dates from the mid to late 18th century. It is made of limestone and features a brass plate. The milestone is a rectangular post with a rounded top, and the plate is inscribed with the text: 'X MILES / TO / GLOSTER'. It also includes the name of the engraver, 'CLISSOLD'. The mileage indicated reflects the distance along the old direct route to Gloucester via Painswick, which is now mostly abandoned.
