Description

Old Pound Cottage is a detached house dating from the mid-to-late 17th century, with alterations and an enlargement in the 18th century. The house is constructed of coursed rubble limestone, with artificial stone chimneys and a concrete tile roof. It is a two-storey building with a gable end facing the road. The south end displays the original gable line, clearly visible through rows of pigeon holes, which have since been blocked. A two-light casement window with a hoodmould is set within this pigeon hole arrangement. The roof pitch was likely reduced when a single 16-pane sash window was inserted on the ground floor, accompanied by a deep stone lintel. A ball finial is present atop the roof. The sides of the house feature 20th-century casement windows, with a noticeable change in the masonry indicating the original eaves line. Attached outbuildings at the north end are not of particular architectural interest. The interior has not been inspected. The cottage is included on the list for its group value and to complete the tight grouping of buildings on the western approach to Bisley village.
