Description
The boathouse, built around 1820, is likely designed by John Adey Repton for the 1st Earl Ducie. It features coursed rubble limestone with dressed quoins, red brick, an ashlar chimney, and a stone slate roof. The structure is two stories tall, with a boat dock on the lower level, presenting a picturesque appearance.
On the north side, there is a central projecting gabled porch supported by rustic timber posts, leading to a four-panelled door. The building has shaped barge boards and eaves fascias, along with a low-level doorway on the left that has a plank door. A ridge-mounted chimney with a moulded cap is present, and the south side has two slit openings at the lower level, with an off-centre casement window above. The east end is constructed of brick and features a large boat opening with a timber lintel and a canted upper floor timber oriel above. The interior has not been inspected, and the site was very overgrown at the time of the survey in December 1985.
