Description

Greenhouse Court is a large detached house that dates from the 17th and 19th centuries. It is constructed of coursed and squared limestone with stone slate roofs. The building has a complex layout featuring a cross-gabled early unit that is positioned end-on to the road. To the left, there is a one-bay lower link building that connects to a third block, which extends into a large back wing.

The main building has a twin-gabled frontage and stands 2 and a half storeys tall. It features 2 or 3-light recessed chamfered stone mullioned casements, all with stopped hoods. The right gable includes Gothick glazing bars, and each gable has a small single light window in the roof space. The central two windows on the first floor are set below a battlemented parapet. A central flat-roofed 20th-century porch has a 4-light casement with cusped heads and a plank door. The gables are coped, with cross-roll saddles, and there is a stack with capping at the end gables.

Facing the road, the left side features a two-storey building with two bays and a parapet, which has 2 over 3-light 19th-century stone mullioned casements with hoods and a central plank door. Next is the lower link unit that has a battlemented oriel above a 20th-century 4-light casement, along with a small lancet window and a 20th-century door with a 4-centre head. The right side shows the back gable of the main building, which is fenestrated like the front gable but has a plain gable facing the street. The north front, away from the road, features the left gable of the main block with four lights, twin gables set back, and a 19th-century haunched gable on the right with a 4-light opening at the first floor.
