Description
The walled garden of Fretherne Lodge, located about 80 meters northeast of the house, dates from the early 19th century. It features brick walls topped with plain stone coping, enclosing a rectangular area approximately 50 meters by 30 meters. The walls have shallow projecting plain buttresses and corner piers. On the east and west sides, the wall slopes down in height from about 3.5 meters to 2.5 meters, rising again in the center to create a small feature with an inset pointed arch recess on the outer side. The north side rises again at the corner nearest the drive to Fretherne Lodge, forming a small parapet in front of a small brick building with a stack on the north wall that projects outward towards the road, possibly serving as a summerhouse. A wooden lattice gate on the south side connects to a path leading to the house. This complete walled garden is in good condition and is an important feature along the roadside, situated almost adjacent to the Church of St Mary.
