Description
This group of seven monuments is located in the churchyard between approximately 1 metre northeast and 10 metres east of the chancel of the Church of St. Martin. These chest tombs date from the mid to late 18th century, with one in sandstone from the late 17th century. The line of tombs runs alongside the main path to the church.
From west to east, the first tomb features corner balusters and is inscribed to John Gabb, who died in 1795. The second tomb has panelled sides and round-topped end panels, but its inscriptions are now illegible. The third tomb, made of sandstone, also has corner balusters and is inscribed to George Webb, who died in 1766. The fourth tomb has corner balusters and bolstered side panels, with late 19th-century inscriptions. The fifth tomb has a lyre end with an oval panel on the south side and a parted curtain above it. The sixth and seventh tombs both feature lyre ends with anthropomorphic end cartouches and rectangular side panels, which are flanked by tripod-mounted urns in relief.
