Description
The monument to Richard Ockold is a chest tomb located in the churchyard approximately 4.5 meters south of the south aisle of the Church of St. Leonard. It dates from 1657 and is made of limestone. The tomb is rectangular in shape, featuring arcaded sides and ends, with each bay divided by flat balusters. Above the arcades, there is a continuous complex moulding that is interrupted by an inscription panel on the north side. The top and base of the tomb are also complexly moulded. The inscription on the north side commemorates Richard Ockold, who died in 1657. The monument is very well preserved and should not be confused with another monument to Richard Ockold located 1.5 meters to the north, which has a similar design.
