Description
The obelisk monument, located approximately 120 metres south of Nether Lypiatt Manor, dates from the early 18th century. It is made of limestone and features a brass plate. The structure consists of a square pedestal that is mounted on a plain base with a moulded cornice. Above this pedestal stands a tall obelisk, which bears the following inscription on the brass plate: 'My name was Wag who rolled the green The oldest horse that ever was seen My years they numbered forty-two I served my master just and true.' This monument is illustrated in S.J. Gardiner and L.C. Padin's book, "Stroud and the Five Valleys in Old Photographs," published in 1984, and the plaque is recorded in M.A. Rudd's "Historical Records of Bisley with Lypiatt," published in 1937.
