Description
The Carter Monument is a chest tomb located about 4 meters south of the south-east nave window in the churchyard of the Church of St. Mary. It commemorates John Carter, who died in 1778, and was erected in 1786 for his wife, Sarah. The monument is made of forest limestone and features a flat top with a moulded plinth and capping on the base. It has gadrooned quarter balusters with carved bases, an urn on the east side, and a cartouche on the west side. The north side displays a large oval moulded panel with carved spandrels, while the south side features a large carved surround.
