Description
The barn at Westend Farm is a large structure built in the mid-19th century, reportedly during the Crimean War. It is constructed of brick with a slate roof. The west side features two large double-tiered double timber doors, with two pierced brick diamond shapes on each side of the doors, as well as two long ventilator slits on the inner side of each pair. There are also two cambered head doors between the pairs. The ends of the barn have a series of plain slits and a pitch hole, with the south end boarded and featuring a round owl hole in the apex. The east side is similar to the west. The barn consists of ten bays, with a central brick partition wall and five larger bays on each side. The king post trusses are in very good condition. This barn is a prominent example of a type commonly found in this area.
