Description

The Marten Monument is a pedestal tomb located in the churchyard approximately 3 meters north of the north aisle of the Church of St. Nicholas. It dates from 1830 and was created by John Pearce of Frampton. The monument is made of sandstone and features a square shape with recessed corners, standing on a large stepped base. It has a moulded plinth and a fluted frieze, topped with domical coping. Each face of the monument includes a raised oval inscription panel adorned with draped foliage branches. The south side is inscribed in memory of William Marten, who died in 1830.
