Description
No. 11 College Green is a house, now used as offices, built between 1735 and 1736, with possible medieval origins and later alterations. It was designed by John Pasco. The building is constructed of brick with a stuccoed front and features a slate roof with gabled dormers and a brick ridge stack on the right. It is a small, double-depth block that stands two storeys tall, with an attic and cellar.
The front has two bays and is finished in later stucco with ruled masonry joints, a raised band at first-floor level, and a stone-coped parapet. The entrance doorway is located to the left in a plain opening and features an eight-panel fielded panel door, with the upper two panels replaced by glazing. Both the ground and first floors have sashes with glazing bars arranged in three by four panes, set in openings with flat-arched heads and raised keystones. The two roof dormers also contain sashes with glazing bars, arranged in three by three panes.
Inside, the original staircase has a solid string, square newels, column-on-vase balusters, and a moulded handrail. The ground-floor rooms to the right of the entrance hall have 18th-century chimney pieces. The front room includes a fielded panel dado, fielded panels above, and a dentil cornice. The cellar features rubble stone walls, which may be medieval, and a brick vault.
The house was built by the same partnership as No. 10 College Green under a similar leasehold agreement with the cathedral chapter.
