Description
No. 138 on London Road is a house built around 1820. It features a red brick exterior, a cast-iron porch, and a slate roof with end gables and two ridge end stacks. The building is designed as a double-depth block and has three storeys plus a basement.
The front of the house is symmetrical, with a central entrance doorway that includes a fanlight and a panelled door with an upper glazed panel. The entrance is accessed by a flight of stone steps, which lead to a mid-19th century decorative cast-iron porch that has pierced standards and arches on the front and sides.
On the ground floor, there is a sash window on either side of the porch, and on each of the upper floors, there are two sash windows. All windows have glazing bars, with the ground and first-floor windows featuring three rows of four panes, while the second-floor windows have three rows of three panes. These windows are set in openings with painted, flat arched heads and projecting stone sills. The first-floor windows are adorned with decorative, bow-fronted, wrought-iron guards. The interior has not been inspected.
