Description

The Hawkins Monument is a chest tomb located in the churchyard, approximately 14 meters south of the west end of the nave of the Church of St. Mary. It commemorates Joseph Hawkins, who died in 1792. The tomb is made of stone and features a flat top with a moulded edge. The sides are plain, framed by a sunk line that outlines a rectangular panel. The ends of the tomb have elongated bulbous rectangular balusters topped with fluted capitals, and it stands on a moulded base. There are later inscriptions added to the monument.
