Description
The Tibbatts and Rodway monuments are located in the churchyard about 5 meters southwest of the southwest corner of the porch of the Church of St. Mary. There are two tombs: one chest tomb dedicated to Josiah Tibbatts, who died in 1801, and one pedestal tomb for George Rodway, who died in 1790.
The chest tomb features a flat lid with a moulded edge and a fluted frieze adorned with paterae. It has quarter rectangular corner balusters with a fluted stem and a gadrooned design below. The ends and south face have a simply moulded surround to a rectangular panel, while the north face includes fluted edge moulding to a rectangular panel, decorated with guilloche and egg and dart motifs. The tomb also has a moulded plinth and some Gothic lettering, with later inscriptions added in 1837. This chest tomb shares a similar design with the Hill and Hartland monuments.
The pedestal tomb for George Rodway has a weathered lid with a step and a moulded edge. Its sides are framed to create a sunk panel, and the base features a moulded top.
