Description
The Skipp and unidentified monument is located in the churchyard about 5 meters southwest of the porch of the Church of St. Mary in Dymock. This structure consists of two pedestal tombs dating from the late 18th century to the early 19th century, made of stone.
The Skipp monument, from the 1780s, features a pyramid top with a step and a weathered lid that has a moulded edge. The sides have a raised rectangle and the plinth has a moulded top with a slight projection below. The inscriptions on the monument are notable for their good lettering, including a long 's' in the early inscriptions and Gothic lettering from 1785. It commemorates several children, including two named Robert Skipp, who died in 1781 and 1783, along with later inscriptions.
The adjoining unidentified monument, dating from the early 19th century, has a small flat centre that may have been a base for a missing urn. It features sloping sides, a step, and a flat top with a moulded edge. The vertical leaf frieze includes quarter-square corner balusters adorned with leaf decoration on the capitals, while the sides are plain with a moulded base.
