Description
The Attwood Monument is a tall chest tomb located in the churchyard of the Church of St. James, next to the north-east corner of the vestry. It commemorates Charles Attwood, who died in 1806. The monument is made of stone and features wrought iron elements. It has a flat lid with a moulded edge and elongated pilaster ends. The stem includes a raised panel with egg and dart capitals, and the sides have raised rectangular panels with scalloped corners and a moulded base. The tomb is surrounded by simple iron railings and displays good lettering, with scrolls at the ends and Gothic letters on the first line, along with later inscriptions.
