Description
Greenacres is a cottage built in 1847 by F. O'Connor for the National Co-operative Land Company, with minor alterations made in the 20th century. The cottage features random rubble walls that are faced with render lined as ashlar on a stone plinth, and it has a roof covered with ribbed concrete tiles. The front has three rooms, with the center room projecting slightly and all rooms being one room deep. There is a leanto at the rear and wings on either side, making it a single-storey structure.
The entrance has a half-glazed front door that is accessed by one step and consists of three panels in the bottom half. On either side of the door are single-light 8-pane casements, with a dumb-bell ventilator above in the gable and plain bargeboards. The wings on each side contain two-light casements, with each light also having 8 panes. The roof is hipped, and there is a chimney at the center rear. The cottage has seen little alteration, except for the loss of the end chimneys and changes to the roof finish. It is part of a group of other Chartist cottages and is listed mainly for its historical and sociological significance.
