Description

This description covers a group of three stone monuments located in the churchyard, positioned between 3 and 8 meters south of the east side of the south porch of the Church of St. Mary. The group consists of one pedestal tomb and two chest tombs.

The pedestal tomb, which is closest to the church and remains unidentified, dates from around 1800. It features a weathered top, a step, a flat lid with a moulded edge, raised rectangular sides, and a moulded base, all resting on a brick foundation.

To the south is a plain, low chest tomb from 1843, which has a flat lid that is slightly inset from the sides below. This tomb is set on a plain stone surround that originally supported railings and has brick underbuilding adjacent to the path. Later inscriptions are found on the lid.

Further south is the chest tomb of Richard Hill, who died in 1765. This tomb has a flat, heavy lid with a moulded edge and quarter-square, bulbous corner pilasters. The south face features rococo carving, while the north side has a fielded panel with inset segmental ends. The east side has a sunk panel with a semi-circular top and bottom, and the west end displays a cherub's head, an hourglass, and wings in relief. Later inscriptions are also present, including some on the lid.
