Description
The Hooper monument is a chest tomb located in the churchyard about 27 meters north of the north-west corner of the tower of the Church of St. Mary in Dymock. It commemorates Joseph and Robert Hooper, who both died in 1824. The tomb is made of stone and features a steeply weathered lid with a cherub's head carved on the ends. The lid has a gadrooned edge and the sides and ends taper downwards. The corners are decorated with a pendant leaf strip, while the north and south faces have fielded panels. The east end has a sunk panel, and on the west side, there is a sorrowing female figure leaning on a draped monument, with drapery extending down the corners on each side. The monument has a moulded base. Later inscriptions on the lid are no longer legible as of 1985.
