Description

The barn at Big Hyde Farm, located approximately 5 metres south-west of Big Hyde Farmhouse, is possibly from the 16th century. It features box-framed walls set on a rubble plinth, with some brick infill and tarred plank cladding, topped by a corrugated iron roof. The structure includes five pairs of crucks, with collar and tie beams that extend through with shoulders to support the plate and a single purlin. There is a ridge pole and some early rough-sawn rafters. The barn has cart-ways in the second bay from the south end and a 19th-century brick extension that adds one bay at the north end.
