Description

Denewood and Old Bear Buildings comprise a dwelling, originally the Old Bear Inn, dating from the 18th century. The building is rendered over stone and has Welsh slate hipped roofs. It is a complex parallel range structure, connected to the properties at 2 and 4 Severn Street. Two chimney stacks are visible, one to the left and another in the centre of the ridge. The building has two and a half storeys. The fenestration is complex: the ground floor features one sash window, two canted bays, and a second sash window, all with glazing bars. The first floor has five 19th-century sash windows with bars, and three dormer windows containing sashes are situated on the right. A panelled door with a plain transom light is located on the left, and a four-panel door with sidelights, and a flat segmental decorative fanlight enclosed in a porch with square pilasters and a full entablature, is to the right. A cellar opening is visible on the return side facing Severn Street. The rear of the building is constructed of brick with pantiles, and incorporates some 18th-century sashes to the top floor, including a large elliptical opening, now blocked, towards the bottom right. See also the properties at 2 and 4 Severn Street.
