Description

This monument, located about 420 meters east of the Down House, was built in 1852 and is made of stone. It features an obelisk topped with a coat of arms, set on a panelled square base with a moulded top. The monument stands on a plinth with a moulded top and is accessed by three stone steps. It commemorates George Dowdeswell, who died in 1852, and is notable for having built the house and laid out the grounds. The monument is part of a group that includes the house and stables.
