GV II

Unidentified very large headstone; probably about 1800; stone. About 2.3m high, 120mm thick. Shaped top slightly thicker than main part; rounded shoulders, followed by slight step to sweep up to short, central flat. Beaded edge to bottom of top section: main body beaded on corners and divided into thirds vertically on both sides with beading. On west face an inset panel with cambered head and beaded edge has high relief carving of child in contemporary dress, with leaf scrolls back and front. Carving good; inscriptions largely weathered off, but text 'Suffer little children to come unto me.....' still partly legible around top. Forms part of close group with Wooley and Wood, monuments, (q.v.). (D. Verey, Gloucestershire: The Vale and Forest of Dean, 1970).
