Description

A 17th-century barn is attached to the northwest corner of Hewelsfield Court. It is constructed of rendered sandstone with a slate roof. The barn is two-and-a-half storeys high and has two windows with two-light stone mullioned casements. One ground-floor window is a three-light design, missing one mullion. A large opening is also visible. The outer gable end has a blocked two-light opening above a flight of nine steep stone steps, leading to an opening. A long wall includes a stable door beneath a projecting section of wall, approximately 5 meters wide and 50 millimeters, supported by three stone corbels. Internally, the barn has a five-bay structure with slightly arched collars and some deep, chamfered beams. An eaves-height wall connects the barn to the adjacent house. It appears to be the remains of the original farmhouse or a part of it. During a survey in November 1983, the barn was abandoned and in very poor condition.
