Description
The Hartland monument is a chest tomb located in the churchyard, about 4.5 meters southeast of the southeast corner of the chancel at the Church of St. Mary. It commemorates R. Hartland, who died in 1803. The tomb is made of stone and features a flat lid with a moulded edge and a fluted frieze adorned with paterae. It has quarter-rectangular corner balusters with fluted stems and gadrooning below. The ends and south face have a simply moulded frame surrounding a rectangular panel, while the north face displays fluted edge moulding with guilloche and egg and dart motifs. The monument also has a moulded plinth and some Gothic lettering, with inscriptions for Hartland's wife, who died in 1819. The design is similar to that of the Tibbatt and Hill monuments.
