Description
This house dates from the 17th century, with alterations in the 18th and 19th centuries. It is constructed with brick-nogged timber framing, with a distinctive Sussex-bond gable facing the road, and has a tiled roof. The house is three bays wide at the road end, with a 1½-storey element, and two bays wide, two storeys high at the far end, arranged one room deep. A lean-to extension runs along the rear. The house is set at an angle to the road, with a 2-light casement window with a cambered brick arch at each floor within the gable. Double doors lead to a 20th-century store attached as a lean-to on the right, which projects slightly forward of the gable.
The right-hand side of the front elevation features timber framing to the main wall, extending up to the eaves, in three panels high. To the left, there is a painted brick front to the lean-to, with a 4-pane window and weatherboarding above, alongside a boarded door sheltered by a corrugated-iron-roofed gabled hood with a timber former. A 2-light casement with weatherboarding is located to the right. A painted brick porch with a hipped roof and a half-glazed door sits on the right end, with a 2-light casement on the left return. Above are two gabled dormers, each containing a 2-light casement. A brick chimney rises from the ridge one bay in from the road end, while another brick chimney projects from the rear eaves on the right end of the higher section.
The front wall at the right end of the house is set forward; the framing is three panels high per floor. On the left is a 2-light casement under weatherboarding; the right end has been partly rebuilt in brick with a 4-pane sash window. Two single-light casements are visible on the first floor, with a brick chimney rising from the eaves in the centre. The interior has not been inspected.
