Description
The Wooley monument is a headstone located in the churchyard about 21.5 meters south of the east end of the nave of the Church of St. Ethelbert. It commemorates Mary Wooley, who died in 1746, and is made of stone approximately 200 millimeters thick with a chamfered edge at the back. The headstone features a shaped top with a carved head in the center, flanked by scrolls on each side. Below this is an oval panel for the inscription, which is surrounded by deeply-cut rococo moulding. The inscription uses a mix of upper and lower case lettering. This monument is considered one of the finest rococo headstones in the churchyard and is part of a close group that includes a child headstone and the Wood monument.
