Description
Monk's Cottage is a late 17th-century cottage featuring a timber-frame structure with wattle and daub or rendered infill, and a random rubble extension. The building has a tiled roof and consists of two bays, is one room deep, and is one and a half stories tall. There are single-bay, single-storey extensions at each end.
On the entrance front, the left side has a stone extension with a flush panelled door on the right, which is topped by a flat timber lintel. The stonework for the chimney is located in the first panel to the right of the house, with timber framing extending beyond two panels high. There is a two-light casement window, and behind an open, gabled timber porch, there is a late 20th-century half-glazed door. Low stone walls flank the porch, and to the right is another two-light casement window.
A lean-to dormer is positioned to the left of the front door, and there is a gable chimney on the ridge of the left gable. The right side features a timber-framed extension with a shallow hipped roof and a top half-glazed window with a total of seven lights. Originally, the floor beams were tenoned through the studs, but the floor was raised in the late 20th century, and the stairs were replaced.
