Description
The Garden Terrace and Pavilions to the west of Oaklands Park is an 18th-century structure made of limestone, designed as a large-scale garden folly or ornament. It features a broad raised stone-paved terrace that is backed by a high plain wall, positioned at right angles to the main house and facing southeast. The front of the main paved area is defined by two pairs of decorative pilasters, with remains of paired pilasters at the corners that have richly decorated floriated heads. Centrally located is a square pavilion or gazebo, which has corner piers carrying pilasters adorned with rich floral decoration and heavy consoles, all joined by an arch. Notably, the pavilion does not have a ceiling or roof and is accessed from the lower garden level by a broad flight of eleven steps.
