Description

Broadoak House is a house from the late 18th century, featuring a later front added to an earlier rear section. The front is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond, with stone quoins and a plinth, and it retains remnants of tuck pointing on the road-facing side. The roof is covered with slate in diminishing courses at the front and concrete tiles at the rear, where it is not visible.

The entrance front has four windows and is two rooms deep. It is oriented at right angles to the road, with the front door located off-centre to the left, accessed by three semi-circular stone steps. The double door consists of six panels and is topped with a rectangular fanlight featuring intersecting glazing bars. The entrance is flanked by Roman Doric pilasters and has a frieze, with a pedimented head that includes guttae below the floor and slopes.

The windows are sash style, with stone sills and stepped stone voussoirs, and the keystone projects slightly. A plain string course runs along the first floor, topped by a stone dentil cornice and a plain parapet, which rises to the chimneys that have moulded stone caps at the ends.

Inside, the front rooms have six-panel doors that are fielded with a planted bead. There is a fluted dado rail, an Adam-style fireplace with a frieze, and the walls in the room to the right are plastered and 'panelled' with thin reed moulding. A two-panel door with 'L' hinges leads to the rear room on the right.
