Description
The Fawke and Dance monuments are two pedestal tombs located in the churchyard, about 19 meters south of the west end of the nave of the Church of St. Mary. The Fawke monument commemorates Mary Fawke, who died in 1835, while the Dance monument is for Mary Dance, who died in 1806. Both monuments are made of stone.
The Fawke monument features a ball finial on its base, two steps, a weathered lid with a moulded edge, and a stylized leaf frieze. It has slightly raised ovals set in rectangles on the sides, corner paterae, and a moulded base. The first inscription is presented on copper plate scrolls, with a later inscription added.
The Dance monument has a square pyramid top with a moulded edge and a steeply swept base. Its flat lid also has a moulded edge. The monument includes a fluted frieze, corner paterae, plain raised ovals on the sides, and a moulded base, along with later inscriptions.
