Description
The monument to Henery is a chest tomb located about 11 metres south of the nave of the Church of St Mary Magdalen. It dates from the late 17th century and is made of sandstone. The tomb features a flat top with a moulded edge and lyre ends, along with deep sunk panels that have palmette or bundled reed decorations on the north and south sides. At the centre of the east end, there is an embellished sunk circular panel with a six-pointed star. The base of the tomb was found to be sunk at the time of the survey in November 1983. Although the inscriptions are not fully legible, they reference Henery and the year 1694, with a message on the south side that reads: "Swet frendes morne no more I am not/ lost but gon before for Jesus Christ/ doth call to rest prepare to dy for dy/ thou must." The monument is centrally positioned among a group of three tombs that run east-west in close alignment.
