Description
The Bayley monument is a chest tomb located in the churchyard, approximately 7 meters west of the south-west corner of the tower of the Church of St. John the Evangelist. This early 19th-century stone tomb features a flat lid with a moulded edge. The north side has a fielded panel adorned with leaf moulding, while the south side has an indented line framing a rectangular panel with scalloped corners and leaf carving in the corners. The ends of the tomb are plain, but there is leaf carving on the returns. It stands on a chamfered plinth and displays good lettering. The monument commemorates Thomas Bayley, who died in 1805, and his wife, who died in either 1800 or 1808.
